No turf wars here for a real Lion-hearted effort for rugby

DUE to his own experience Councillor Russell Green believes The British & Irish Lions visit to Noosa next year will offer youngsters the chance to create a lifelong memory.

"When I was in the Cooroy under 11 cricket team we were taken to meet the Indian cricket team.

"The team came to the Nambour showgrounds and we were allowed into the dressing rooms to get their signatures on our cricket bats.

"It was great, I will never forget it."

It's all a possibility now the biggest touring team in the world have chosen Noosa for their Training and Recovery week during their 2013

tour.

Last week the new turf was put down on the Noosa Dolphin fields as part of the of Council's $60,000 investment in the Club's tour.

"The British & Irish Lions Tour will be the biggest sporting event in Australia in 2013 and having the team's week spent in Noosa is a real coup for our destination," Cr Green said.

 2013 is the 125th anniversary tour

 The tour takes place every four years but only comes to Australia every 12 years and will incorporate six regional games and three test matches in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney.

 The Training and Recovery Week will include three days of training plus some recovery time for the team.

 The tour attracts about 25,000 fans who travel around the world following one of the world's most famous touring Rugby Union teams.
