ADFA cadet charged with attack

AN Australian Defence Force Academy cadet stands accused of committing acts of indecency upon a female officer in Canberra earlier this month.

The cadet, 21, allegedly entered the room of the officer on May 6.

Police arrested the cadet in Canberra on Sunday.

He was later released on bail and will front ACT Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Defence issued a statement on Monday saying it "took such allegations very seriously".

"ADFA cadets brought this matter to the attention of the ADFA senior leadership. As soon as the leadership was made aware of this matter, they notified the Australian Defence Force Investigative Service (ADFIS) and ACT Policing," the statement read.

"The safety and wellbeing of cadets at ADFA is our priority. Defence is providing ongoing support to all parties involved in this matter.

"ADFA expects all of its people to adhere to the highest standards of behaviour. The vast majority of ADFA Cadets understand and conform to these high standards. The conduct that is alleged in this matter is completely at odds with those standards and goes against the academy's values."

Last month, a 23-year-old soldier was charged with the rape of a 21-year-old civilian woman at the Royal Military College, Duntroon.
