Popular pregnant belly art

ART comes in all shapes and sizes - even in the shape of a pregnant belly.

When a friend approached Matthew Zegiel about two years ago, suggesting they paint her pregnant belly for a photo shoot, Matt jumped at the idea.

The Hervey Bay Smile Pretty photographer paints the designs himself and they can vary from a painting of the baby in the womb to something a little more abstract like a tree or an ocean scene.

As far as Matt knows, he is the only photographer on the Fraser Coast offering the unique service.

Some people even choose to get progressive photos taken using the painting to create a theme.

One client decided to get a clock painted on her belly and then, when she was nine months pregnant, the clock's alarm began to "chime" and Matt created those effects on the painting on her belly.

He said the women who requested the painting saw it as a way to set their photos apart and do something a little different.

He said it was also a way for them to celebrate their pregnancy.

Often they come to Matt with an idea in mind for a painting and he helps bring it to life.

It's also a nice sensation for the woman to have their bellies painted.

Matt said by the time they were heavily pregnant their skin was often a bit dry and the paint created a nice, soothing sensation.
