18 crews called to bush fire at Carters Ridge

UPDATE: 8:40am Two fire crews have returned to the site of a massive bushfire at Carters Ridge near Kenilworth. 

The perimeter of the blaze was blacked out overnight, and the fire itself was largely contained by 10pm. 

Fire crews monitored the situation throughout the evening and have returned again this morning.

QFS media have confirmed no properties were threatened or damaged during the fire. 

LATEST: Firefighters will this morning return to the site of a bushfire burning near Kenilworth.

18 crews were battling the blaze at Lawrence Rd, Carters Ridge, after it broke out on Sunday morning. 

The fire's perimeter was blacked out overnight.

EARLIER: MORE than 10 fire crews are on the scene of a large grass fire south of Gympie with up to a further eight on their way.

The blaze, burning near Lawrence Rd, Carters Ridge, near Kenilworth, broke out at around 9am this morning.

While Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesman says there is no threat to property at this time, residents should take precautionary measures.

 

QFES recommends:

. Putting on protective clothing;

. Drinking lots of water;

. Moving car/s to a safe location;

. Closing windows and doors and shutting blinds;

. Bringing pets inside, restraining them (leash, cage or secure room) and providing water;

. Wetting down fine fuels close to buildings;

. Removing garden furniture, doormats and other items;

. Sealing all gaps under doors and screens;

. Filling containers with water - eg bath, sinks, buckets, wheelie bins;

. Having ladders ready for roof space access (inside) and against roof (outside);

. Having a generator or petrol powered pump ready; and

. Checking and patrolling outside for embers, extinguishing any spot fires and seeking shelter as the fire front arrives.

Residents are advised to call 000 if they believe their property comes under threat.
