THE staff here at Caboolture News are once again throwing our weight behind our Adopt-A-Family campaign and we're asking for your help.
We have dozens of families from different organisations who are doing it tough and could really use a boost over the Christmas period.
Adopting a family is simple and won't break the bank. You don't have to actually take them home with you, just choose a family in need, or two if you're feeling generous, from the ads running over the next four weeks and prepare a hamper.
Hampers should include presents for each family member, as well as a mix of Christmas and everyday food.
Caboolture News editor Vicki Wood said she was proud to be able to carry on the Adopt-A-Family tradition.
"With so many families struggling it's great to be part of community action to help," she said.
"We can get behind people and support them and make someone's Christmas better.
"It's so hard for so many people, especially at this time of year, so every little bit really does count."
The Haven has warned that families will need help more than ever as advertising blitzes remind them of lost loved ones and the Christmas treats they couldn't have.
"It's hard times out there for everybody," Haven manager Gail Torrens said. "A lot of the time it just highlights what people don't have. A lot of people don't have families they can rely on as well."
Ever since Adopt-A-Family started, Richardson and Wrench Caboolture has been a passionate supporter, adopting every year since its inception.
This year is no exception. Company director Scott Lachmund said it was important to give everyone a bit of a break at this time of the year.
"Even though we're doing it tough, others are doing it tougher," he said. "We're in a position where we're more fortunate than others, so I just want to give back."
R&W takes a communal approach to adopting. All the staff bring in food and gifts and put them towards the gift hamper.
The Relationship Assistance and Family Therapy Service at the Caboolture Neighbourhood Centre has more than 60 families up for adoption this year and desperately need your help.
RAaFTS helps families all year but co-ordinator Jackie said at Christmas time the helping hand became particularly important.
So pick a family, ring the number and start putting your hamper together, even ask your friends to help out if need be. Businesses are especially welcome to adopt.
