ST GEORGE Illawarra posted another victory against their former coach Wayne Bennett with a 12-4 defeat of Newcastle at Kogarah Jubilee Oval on Friday night.

The Steve Price-coached Dragons beat the Knights in the opening round and they repeated the dose via a dour two tries to one triumph, albeit with a scoreless second half.

Beau Scott and Jason Nightingale crossed for tries for the Dragons, while Akuila Uate scored the Knights' lone four-pointer.

For the second time, Dragons five-eighth Jamie Soward outpointed Knights opposite Jarrod Mullen - only this time a Country Origin jersey was potentially up for grabs.

Soward was hopeful of being selected in the Country squad on Sunday, as news emerged that Mullen was in doubt with a severe cork to his right leg and Canberra five-eighth Terry Campese had suffered a knee injury against Brisbane.
