Gasfields Commission Bill introduced to Parliament

A LAW that will give power to the Gasfields Commission was introduced to Parliament on Tuesday.

The Commission is a group created to manage dealings between landowners, the community and the emerging coal seam gas industry.

Once passed, the Gasfields Commission Bill 2012 will give its chairman John Cotter and six commissioners the power to force the government or gas companies to release information.

The commissioners include pastoralist and Taroom mayor Don Stiller, Dalby farmer Ian Hayllor, Western Downs mayor Ray Brown, head of CSG lobby group APPEA Rick Wilkinson, academic Steven Raine and Toowoomba and Surat Basin Enterprise boss Shane Charles.
