ON YOUR marks and get set to go to the starting line of the Jetts Coolum Classic fun run on Australia Day.

The inaugural event was planned for last year but it was rained out along with all the other Australia Day celebrations planned for Coolum.

The fun run is a fundraiser for Coolum Surf Club Summer Surf Girl entrant Kate Norman and $5 from each registration will go to the club for the purchase of vital rescue equipment.

Kate said she was excited to be part of the first Coolum Classic Australia Day fun run.

"I think that this will be a great event for Coolum Beach Surf Club and will continue in future years to become an iconic run on the Sunshine Coast," she said.

"The funds raised are going towards a great cause so it's really great to see so much local support for the event."

The fun run, which starts outside the Coolum Surf Club at 9:20am, will follow a 5km loop along the David Low Way between Point Perry and Birtwill Sts to finish up back in front of the club.

Prizes to be won on the day have been donated by Allez Sport Mooloolaba, Raw Energy Coolum Beach and Coolum Cycles.

Atlas Multisports head coach and race director Jason Crowther said the event was a community fun run as well as a challenge for more serious competitors.

He said the run had a 5km leg as well as a 2.5km run or walk leg to suit people of all ages and fitness levels.

Registrations will open at 8am on the day of the run, with the first 300 entries receiving a free event T-shirt.
