Outstanding Bribie High student to play cricket in England

LUKE Stutter is more than happy for people to assume he falls into the "sporty but not so bright" category.

But deep down he knows what he is capable of.

The Year 12 Bribie Island State High School student is finally wrapping up his schooling but not without claiming a few achievements on the way.

After maintaining straight A grades throughout his schooling, Luke was recently named school dux, claming the dux title every year level from 8-12.

For his efforts, R&W Bribie Island awarded Luke $2000 to support his future education.

While he is dedicated to his study, he credits his mum, who passed away when he was 14, with inspiring him to do his best.

"My mum is my inspiration," he said.

"I think she would be proud of me.

"Both mum and dad really pushed me to do well."

With a strong interest in science, Luke said he excelled in physics, chemistry and biology, along with physical education subjects.

While he said plans were in place to study human movement and exercise science at university, he was taking a year off in 2013 for the chance of a lifetime.

Next year Luke will travel to England to play cricket with the Sunshine Coast Scorchers after a successful career so far.

His batting prowess has been recognised and he was an opening batsman for the Queensland 17s team.

When growing up, one of Luke's cricket role models was Brett Lee.

However, according to his teachers, Luke is also a strong role model for other students at Bribie High.

Despite his achievements, Luke appears humble and is unwilling to brag about his efforts.

"People look at me and assume I'm not intelligent because I am sporty," he said.

"I don't really like people knowing. I'd rather be under the radar."
