A 16-YEAR-OLD boy has been charged with attempted murder after a 14-year-old girl was stabbed multiple times at Caboolture school on Wednesday morning.

Police were called to the Duncan Street school around 7.30am following reports that a 14-year-old girl had sustained apparent stab wounds.

The school's principal praised staff who came to the aid of a 14-year-old girl who was stabbed multiple times in a toilet block at a Caboolture college.

Ambulance officers were called to St Columban's College at 7.15am and rushed the injured girl to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital in a stable condition.

Investigating officer David Crawford- Raby said police believed the girl, who was a student at the school, was stabbed with a knife which was located at the scene.

The girl was stabbed in the back and forearms.

Snr-Sgt Crawford-Raby said some students at the school witnessed the incident.

Caboolture Senior Sergeant Steve Jones said the incident resulted after two teenagers had a disagreement at the school. However, no official motive had been established.

Police spent the morning searching for a 16-year-old male student who was believed to be involved in the incident.

Police said the boy voluntarily attended the Caboolture Police Station later that morning and was charged with attempted murder on Wednesday night.

Judith Riordan, a grandmother of a student who was waiting outside the school, said she was extemely worried by the incident.

The school's principal Ann Rebgetz told media the attack was completely out of character for the college which had a great reputation in the community.

"We have a very strong staff here and we have a very strong reputation in the community so this incident is completely atypical.''

She praised the efforts of college staff who provided first aid to the girl at the scene.

"They did very well.''

The boy will be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justices Act.
