"JEFF" the dinosaur has been christened, with the first charity golf day held under his vast shadow last week at the Coolum Palmer Resort.

Sunshine Coast Sports Federation, which has been holding its annual golf day at the resort for 25 years, played under the Palmer regime and under "Jeff" for the first time last Friday.

The 1.7 tonne, 8.5m high, 20m long tyrannosaurus rex is reported to be the first of 150 replica dinosaurs Mr Palmer plans to bring to the resort.

A material change of use would be required if Mr Palmer's dinosaurs became a new attraction in their own right.

But the council said if the dinosaurs were scattered throughout the resort, and "not so substantial in number to constitute a separate attraction in their own right," then they would be classed as "sculptures/artistic embellishment".
