Whos who in election battle?

DIVISION 9 will field the most candidates of any division in next month's Sunshine Coast Council election, with six hopefuls vying for Vivien Griffin's job.

In contrast, Russell Green in Division 11 and Tim Dwyer in Division 2 will return to council unopposed.

There were no surprise candidates in Division 9 when nominations closed this week, with Taylor Bunnag, Greg Fahey, Jen Mazoudier, Linda Morrell, Stephen Robinson and Bruce Dunne already on the campaign trail.

There was an initial glitch in the electoral commission's system, which left Bruce Dunne off the candidate list, but the former Maroochy councillor is a confirmed starter.

There were a couple of surprises in Division 8, with Gerard Stapleton and Stephen Littlejohn nominating against already declared candidates Theresa Blumel, Jason O'Pray and Rod Somerville.

Division 8 councillor Debbie Blumel will run for mayor against Matthew Ryan-Sykes, Mark Jamieson, Jim Hopkins, Michael Bloyce, Kim Edwards, Warren Blee and Brett Winkler.

We will profile the candidates in the lead-up to the election.
