Well-known local tennis players, the two Tommys, are quite a doubles act, if their success at last month’s Hyatt Junior Tennis Championship is anything to go by.

Though unseeded at the tournament, Thomas Berryman from Coolum and Peregian’s Tommy Broadbent took on all comers in the under-10 doubles division and just missed out on taking home the big prize.

Tommy Berryman’s proud dad Lee said the competition, from as far away as Darwin, was very tough.

“It was a very hot weekend, so he did well to get through the two days, playing four matches a day,” Lee said.

“Two of his matches lasted one and a half hours each as they kept getting deuce on final points.”

The boys beat the seeded favourites and missed out on first place by only two points.

Tommy Berryman was also the runner up in the under-10 singles.

The boys, coached by local professional Jamie Fletcher, play doubles together at the Coolum Tennis Club.
