Floods take helicopter out of surf

The Red Bull Heli Surf paddle planned for Coolum Beach last Saturday morning had to be postponed.

Following extensive flooding in Queensland, the Red Bull helicopter, which is capable of winching, was called in to help the relief effort.

The Heli Surf event required entrants to paddle their surfboards to a Red Bull buoy where the winner was to be winched from the water by the helicopter and flown to the Gold Coast for front-row seats at the Quiksilver Pro.

A Red Bull spokeswoman said the event would be rescheduled with a different prize.
