Hyatt to continue to host PGA

THE Australian PGA Championship will remain at the Hyatt Regency Coolum for at least the next three years.

Last year’s Australian PGA Championship winner, Robert Allenby, celebrates his fourth win at Coolum.

The Australian PGA Championship will remain at the Hyatt Regency Coolum for at least the next three years, with the PGA of Australia announcing a multi-million dollar agreement to keep the tournament on the Sunshine Coast until 2012.

The deal includes an option for a further two years, until 2014, which would take the event’s tenure at Coolum to 13 years.

Australian golfer Rod Pampling, who attended the announcement, praised the Coolum event.

“As an Australian and a proud Queenslander, I can say on behalf of the players that the Australian PGA Championship is our favourite event,” he said.

During its time at Coolum the Australian PGA Championship – easily the Coast’s highest-profile sporting attraction – has experienced tremendous growth, making the decision to stay put an easy one for PGA of Australia chief executive Max Garske.

“A significant part of the success of the championship was the fact that we had a tri-partied sponsorship with Queensland Events Corporation, the Hyatt Regency Coolum and with the Sunshine Coast Regional Council, and we are delighted to expand and continue this relationship for the next three years,” Garske said.

The Australian PGA Championship will again be the final event on the Australasian and OneAsia Tours in 2010 and will be held at the Hyatt from December 9 to 12.
