Surf festival set to be a ripper

WITH artists like The Beautiful Girls, Tijuana Cartel, and Coolum's own Pico, next Saturday's concert at the Noosa Festival of Surfing should be a ripper.

The Beautiful Girls will be the star attraction at next weekend’s concert held in conjunction with the Noosa Festival of Surfing.

It has been billed as a sensational six-hour celebration of surf-synched rock, and with artists like The Beautiful Girls, Tijuana Cartel, Ash Grunwald, Band of Frequencies and Coolum’s own Pico, next Saturday’s concert at the Noosa Festival of Surfing should be a ripper.

With singer and songwriter Mat McHugh at the helm, the eclectic Australian rock group Beautiful Girls make rootsy, folk-inflected pop that has drawn comparisons to Ben Harper, Jack Johnson, and Mason Jennings.

Formed in 2002, the band put out the mini-album Morning Sun and the five-track limited-edition EP Good Times before releasing its first full-length album, Learn Yourself, on San Dumo in 2003.

A year later, the band released their second full-length studio album, We’re Already Gone, and Ziggurats followed in 2007 which saw them tour to the UK, USA, and South America.

Tijuana Cartel, with its crazy Mexican flavours and mashed up phat dancin’ beats, has a huge following in this part of the world.

Noosa Festival of Surfing’s entertainment director, Mark Pico, will also be taking to the stage.

With a significant following within the surf music fraternity, Pico’s music has graced 24 surf movie productions.

The licensed all-ages event starts at 3pm in the Lions Park at Noosa. For more information, phone 5473 5676 or visit www.noosafestivalof surf.com.
