SUNSHINE Coast teen sailor Jessica Watson is feeling a bit battered and bruised, but is savouring calm conditions as she continues to sail towards Sydney.

Yesterday 16-year-old Jess, who aims to become the youngest person in history to sail solo around the world, said the weather was almost “a little too calm”.

“But the light conditions have been a good chance to get on top of all my latest jobs and have given my bruised and tender hands a bit of time to recover,” Jess blogged yesterday.

“It's been a lot clearer today but the last few days have been quite foggy.

“Normally I don't mind a bit of fog because it's sort of pretty swirling and sitting in the troughs between the swell. But this time it was mostly just grey, damp and dreary.

“I’m starting to wonder what I did to offend the sun, it's hardly showed its face in weeks.”

Jess said her mainsail, which was torn in a storm last week, was all stitched up.

She joked about her darning skills, saying “I don't think I'm going to win any embroidery awards but it should all hold together”

Jess also lamented about the break-up of Queensland super-group Powderfinger, who announced they were calling it quits last week.

“I was sorry to hear that Powderfinger have decided to break up. I got sent their new song Sail the Wildest Stretch a while back and I have totally played it to pieces ever since,” she said.
