SOME of the country’s top golf croquet players will be in action at Coolum this weekend at the Australian Golf Croquet Men’s Open Championships.
But the Coolum Croquet Club had to overcome adversity to stage the championships.
A lawn refurbishment carried out by a landscaping company was supposed to improve the good lawn surfaces to excellent condition a number of weeks ago however the process caused deep, wide grooves in the surface, which the club has worked hard to minimise.
The lawn assessor for the championships rewarded the club’s efforts by saying the lawns were good enough to use for the three-day championships. Play will be from 8am to 5pm from Saturday to Monday.
Refreshments and lunches will be available and admission is free.
The club is situated behind Seacove Resort near Coolum RSL.
