THE brand of dummy that almost choked a six-week-old Coolum baby has been withdrawn from sale nation-wide.
Coolum mum Faye Oliver raised the alarm about the dangers of Sanbrook dummies in mid-July after her six-week-old son, Charlie, almost choked on one that had come apart in his mouth.
Mrs Oliver was close by and able to get her finger down Charlie’s throat to remove the piece of rubber teat.
The dummy’s manufacturer, Sanbrook Brands Pty Ltd, later conducted tests, which a company spokesman said proved the dummies were safe.
But under mounting pressure from the public and the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, Sanbrook Brands this week announced an immediate voluntary recall of all Happy Baby Softfeel Latex dummies throughout Australia.
The ACCC had already warned parents to take extreme care when using the dummies after publicity of Mrs Oliver’s complaint led to another 25 instances of teat separation being reported.
Sanbrook Brands said it was working with the ACCC to investigate the problem.
