NERVOUS WAIT: Nev Reeves ponders the prospect of winning $100,000 from Keno if he kicks a goal from half-way.

IF IT isn’t every bloke’s dream, it has to be very close. And for Nev Reeves, it’s a dream that came true.

The Springfield Lakes boilermaker won a Keno promotion with the main prize of a VIP box for him and three mates at the NRL Grand Final.

He also gets two nights luxury accommodation for four people, flights to Sydney, a helicopter ride to the game and $10,000 cash.

Oh, and there’s the small matter of $100,000 if he can kick a goal from 50m out before the final in front of an 80,000-plus crowd.

Mr Reeves, who hasn’t been to a grand final, entered the Keno promotion at his local, Brothers St Brendan’s Leagues Club at Rocklea.

“When the club manager called me to say I’d won I thought she was pulling my leg. I’m over the moon about it,” Mr Reeves said.

He retired from playing football this year due to a rib injury but still coaches juniors and fancies his chances for the 100-grand.

“This is massive – kick a goal for $100,000 and I’m a football player. So obviously I think I’ve got a chance,” he said.

He said he kicked for goal sometimes, although he admitted he never kicked one from 50m.

“Always give the best you can in everything you do – that’s the way I coach football so I should practice what I preach,” he said.

“I’ll be training as much as possible obviously.

“If I get it, it’s a massive bonus, but if I don’t I’m just happy to be there. I get $5000 if I miss so that’s $15,000 I get at least.”

Married with two kids, Mr Reeves said his wife at first wanted to go with him until she realised it was “a boys’ weekend”.

“I’ve asked my brother because it’s his birthday that day and then two of my best mates,” he said.

He is a Parramatta supporter, but them not being in the finals won’t stop him enjoying the day.
