Peregian Beach Surf Life Saving Club will host the aussieBum surfboat racing series on Saturday.
PEREGIAN Beach will host the penultimate round of the aussieBum Avenger Series this Saturday from 8am-4pm.
Smaller surf conditions are forecast than the one to two-metre swell faced by competitors in round three at Noosa two weeks ago when the back of a Mooloolaba boat was demolished and three sweep oars snapped.
Peregian Surf Club's Masters creware fourth overall and keen to regain their 2011 title after finishing third in the finals at Noosa.
Peregian boat captain Nicole Abel said hosting a home round of such an event was great for the club , which also hosted a round of the Queensland Cup last year.
"The boat crews are required to travel between the Gold and Sunshine coasts, and to have this event at home provides the club members with not only a chance to see this, at times, very spectacular sport but also to get behind their own competitors," she said.
As a local trader Nicole can also see the commercial benefit of the event, which brings visitors to Peregian Beach from all over southern Queensland, giving a much need boost to local businesses.
Sitting on top of the open leader board is last-up winner Alexandra Headland PFD.
With the absence of the Currumbin Barbarians this weekend, who are the only other crew to have made both finals in the aussieBum Avenger Series, the Alex crew will be looking for back-to-back victories going into the final round at Mooloolaba on Saturday, March 10.
