WORK is set to commence on the next stage of the Coolum Village Streetscape Plan.

Stage four works will include a new roundabout at the intersection of David Low Way and Elizabeth St and a continuation of the footpath and fencing along the western boundary of the Coolum Holiday Park.

The council plans to relocate the north and southbound bus stops adjacent to Tickle Park and build new bus shelters and relocate and upgrade the Tickle Park vehicle entry.

A new median strip extending from Park St to the caravan park entry will be installed to assist with traffic calming and visual amenity, while the caravan park entry will be upgraded.

Stage four will also see major upgrades to footpaths, new street furniture and new trees and gardens.

Work on the pedestrian footpath on the western boundary of the caravan park will recommence in mid-February.

All major work will pause during the Easter school holiday period.

Construction from the caravan park entry to Park St, including the Tickle Park car park and frontage, is scheduled to begin mid-April and continue until September.

Work on the Elizabeth St roundabout, which will commence about the same time, will take 12 weeks.

Traffic control and temporary road detours will be necessary.

New road and landscape works behind the Park St extension, recently completed as part of the Sea Coolum development will see 15 extra car parking bays and new trees, gardens and a footpath next to the Coolum Community Centre.

Cr Vivien Griffin said it was "terrific news" that the next stage of the streetscape was beginning.

"I said once that the project would be transformational for Coolum - I really believe that will be so," she said

"We'll get that green, traffic-calmed, pedestrian and cyclist-friendly outcome that Coolum can be proud of."

Cr Griffin said recent developments like the Watpac shopping precinct, Sea Coolum and Coles at Coolum Shopping Village, and those in the pipeline such as the Coolum hotel and the United service station, showed business was taking a lead from the council's plan.

"I think people are now seeing a clear vision of what Coolum will look like in the future," she said.

"They see a council that is investing in the area; they now have some confidence to invest as well."
