Kevin Andrews to boycott World Congress of Families meeting

MINISTER for Social Services Kevin Andrews had stood firm against calls from the Greens to boycott the World Congress of Families meeting in Melbourne but decided to give it a miss after hearing it was being hosted by right wing group Catch the Fire.

There was criticism from a number of quarters that the Minister was going to attend the event of a group whose major purpose is to fight the decriminalisation of homosexuality and abortion, saying that we should all have "tolerance".

But the involvement of Catch the Fire, whose leader Danny Nalliah caused anger when he claimed the Black Saturday bushfires were God's retribution for Victoria's abortion laws, proved a stretch too far for Mr Andrews.
