Murderer Max Peter Smith to be sentenced to life in prison

MURDERER Max Peter Smith will be sentenced in November to life imprisonment for the stabbing death of his friend at his Rockville home.

Smith, 21, rose from his position in the prisoner's dock in Brisbane Supreme Court on Friday morning with a near tangible timidity to face his fate.

Police discovered the body of 19-year-old Jake James Lasker with lacerations to his neck and torso at his Hogg St home on November 7, 2012.

Mr Lasker had been not long given the all-clear after a battle with eye cancer.

Justice Anthe Philippides on Friday asked her associate to arraign him on one count of murder.

"How do you plead, guilty or not guilty," he was asked.

"Guilty," Smith said.

Justice Philippides adjourned the sentence to the November 17 sittings of the supreme court in Toowoomba so allow parties to gather extra material.

Life imprisonment is mandatory for a murder conviction.
