Tom Boyd is AFL's number one pick at next season's draft

EIGHTEEN-year-old power forward Tom Boyd was the No.1 pick at the AFL draft held at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre last night.

Boyd, who played for the Eastern Rangers in the under-18 TAC Cup was snapped up by GWS, which also chose South Australian midfielder Josh Kelly, who played for Sandringham Dragons in the same competition.

St Kilda has also kept to the pre-draft script by selecting goal-kicking midfielder Jack Billings with pick three, as have the Western Bulldogs, who have gone for tall midfielder Marcus Bontempelli with selection four.

Tasmanian Kade Kolodjashnij was chosen by the Gold Coast Suns at No.5.

Collingwood snapped up South Australian Matthew Scharenberg, before the Brisbane Lions grabbed another Croweater, James Aish, with pick seven.

Rounding out the top 10 were father-son selection Luke McDonald (North Melbourne), Christian Salem (Melbourne) and Nathan Freeman (Collingwood).
