Airbag inflates on impact

An airbag caused facial injuries to a motorist when it inflated after a minor accident on the David Low Way near Coolum’s first bay last week.

The 17-year-old driver, from Mount Coolum, was taken to Nambour hospital as a precaution.

The accident happened around 3.30pm last Thursday when a VW Kombi van heading south stopped to turn right opposite first bay.

The young driver’s green Mazda Astina sustained substantial damage when it ran into the rear of the Kombi, which sustained only minor damage. The Mazda was towed away.
