Battling Bowditch relegated to secondary circuit

GOLF: Relegation to the second tier of professional golf looms for Steven Bowditch after his torrid season on the US PGA Tour came to an end last week.

The 34-year-old snapped a run of 21 missed cuts at the Wyndham Championship at North Carolina but that provided him with little consolation.

"I just lost my job. There's nothing gratifying about that,” he was reported as saying via the PGA Tour.

His tie for 64th in that event propelled him to 231st in the FedExCup standings but that's well outside the top 125 competitors who reclaim their playing cards for next season.

As a two-time winner on the PGA Tour (the 2014 Valero Texas Open and the 2015 At&T Byron Nelson) Bowditch does get full access to the nation's secondary circuit, the Web.com Tour, and it appears as though he will take that option in an attempt to get his game back on track.

Bowditch lives in Texas and in a sign that he is trying to rediscover his groove, he said via social media earlier this month that he was fitting out a golf studio.

The Peregian Beach product made his PGA Tour debut in 2003 and has since played 212 tournaments at that level.

Just two years ago, his status in the game saw him selected for the Internationals team for the Presidents Cup.
