Police investigate fatal truck crash at Moorland
UPDATE 3.30 PM
POLICE have confirmed a 64-year old Bundaberg man has died after his truck rolled and hit a power pole at Moorland this morning.
Initial investigations suggest the truck was heading north of Moorlands Road at around 11.30 am when the driver lost control.
The driver died at the scene. He was the sole occupant of the truck.
Investigations are continuing.
UPDATE 1.50pm: BUNDABERG Police sergeant Steven Bardini said the Moorland Rd scene where a truck driver died earlier today was now being secured.
"Today police responded to a truck rollover on Moorland Rd, upon arrival police located the truck (which) had smashed up against the power pole and located the driver who was deceased in the cabin at the time," Sgt Bardini said.
"QFRS responded shortly after and were unable to provide that male driver with medical attention. He was pronounced deceased at the scene."
Sgt Bardini said the Forensic Crash Investigation Unit was now working on site.
"They're doing a preliminary investigation. They'll determine the exact cause of the crash," Sgt Bardini said.
"It appears the truckdriver was travelling north on Moorland Rd.
"From early indication it appears that the truck and trailer have gone off the side of the road, which may have resulted in the truck driver losing control of the truck, however, investigations will determine what caused the crash," he said.
Sgt Bardini said as the truck hit a power pole, Ergon Energy were called to secure the area.
"Given that the cab crashed into the power pole, police were concerned that one, the power pole may fall and two, have live wires in the area," he said.
"So police contacted Ergon who are now at (the) scene, securing the scene and cutting off power to the scene to make sure it's safe for emergency services providers to work safely at the location."
Sgt Bardini said there have been "a number of traffic crashes" involving trucks in recent weeks.
"It is concerning, police urge all drivers, especially drivers driving heavy vehicles to obey the law. Watch your speed, a moment of inattention could potentially be fatal," he said.
