Coolum laments another glassing

For the second time in three months, a glassing has occurred at Coolum Beach.

It is alleged that about 11.45pm last Friday a Peregian Springs man grabbed a glass jug and smashed it over the head of a man, 38, after a minor argument.

A 35-year-old man has been charged with unlawful wounding and seriously assaulting police after the incident at the Coolum Beach Surf Club.

It is reported the 38-year-old received a laceration to the back of his head and was taken to Nambour General Hospital by ambulance.

Police attended the scene and arrested the accused man, who allegedly spat at officers.

He will face court in Maroochydore on September 21.

On the morning of June 27, it is alleged Daniel John Sojoski, 32, of Coolum, was responsible for a glassing at Coolum Beach Hotel that left a crowd controller and another man in hospital.

The state government recently announced it would introduce laws requiring plastic cups to be used at hotels and clubs that were classed as being at high risk of violence.

At the end of this year police statistics pinpointing clubs and pubs with a high rate of violence will be used to introduce the requirement.
