Hundreds of flag-wearing, flag-waving locals turned out in hot and humid conditions at Coolum on Monday to celebrate all things Australian.

Organisers were delighted with the fine weather, though spectators would not have minded a little cooling rain on their parade.

Many people who lined the esplanade to cheer on the procession of community floats called for firefighters to soak them as the fire truck went past.

Trained to take the heat out of any situation, the fireys happily obliged.

Activities in Tickle Park included a citizen awards ceremony, rides, market stalls, live music, toad races, thong-throwing and tug of war events and a spectacular fireworks display.
