First on scene stunned driver survived car crash

A YOUNG Sunshine Coast man's amazing road crash survival story was no reflection on his common sense, Imbil police officer in charge Terry Kennedy said yesterday.

"He's totalled the car. I can't believe he was unhurt," Sgt Kennedy said.

The unlicensed man, 20, was not impaired by any substance, "only by stupidity", Sgt Kennedy said.

The driver smashed his Ford Falcon sedan into a roadside tree on the Imbil connection road, not far from the Mary Valley Rd, at 7.30am on Sunday.

A farmer, who came across the scene soon afterwards, said the young man "should be dead" after running off the wrong side of the road on a crest.

"It's amazing. I can't believe he wasn't injured," the farmer said.

"He ran into a tree and clobbered it.

"The car ran up the tree and fell onto its side.

"He smashed the tree half out of the ground and broke sections off it.

"If people can walk away after doing that to a Falcon, then I want one too," he said.
