SWIMMING: A group of young footy mates is planning to tackle the Island Charity Swim.

The 15-year-olds are preparing for the 11km effort in May, fundraising for the Nambour and Currimundi Special Schools in the process.

They have already garnered more than their initial goal ($3000) but would like to continue to raise as much as possible.

They have a justgiving.com page (kawanadolphins) for donations and fund-raising initiatives like a burpee challenge at Jetts Gym last month, when they managed more than 800 burpees ($1 for each one).

The group was put together by Riley Boaza whose motivation is in support of his brother, Noah, who attends Currimundi Special School.

Noah is autistic and benefits greatly from the help from his teachers and staff at the school.

Noah loves going to training with the footy boys and is a valued supporting member of their team.

The Island Charity Swim is a test of endurance for participants. The swim is 11km from Mudjimba Beach around Mudjimba Island (Old Woman Island) to Mooloolaba Beach.

The teenagers will swim as a relay team around a course that takes swimmers about two kilometres offshore.
