Josh Hoffman still out but no broken leg for Bronco

BRONCOS fullback Josh Hoffman (pictured) has received better than expected news, with scans showing he sustained a high ankle sprain in Thursday's match against the Rabbitohs at ANZ Stadium.

Club officials had feared the Kiwi international had broken his leg during his team's 42-16 loss after needing assistance to leave the field. The injury could still rule him out for the rest of the season, however, unless Brisbane defies expectations and makes the top eight.

The Rabbitohs were also hit hard in the match, with back-rower Ben Te'o set to spend the next four weeks on the sidelines after taking an early guilty plea to a grade two dangerous contact "chicken wing" tackle on Broncos forward Sam Thaiday.

Souths teammates Chris McQueen and Kirisome Auva'a are free to play against the Cowboys this weekend after being charged with grade-one "crusher" tackles.
