Marcoola ready for Nippers sign-up day

WITH the days getting warmer and the sunshine lasting longer, it is almost time to get back into the surf.

Ahead of the new season, the Marcoola Surf Life Saving Club is hosting its annual Nippers sign-up day and everyone is invited.

Administrator Olivia Wilson said it was the perfect activity for the whole family to get involved in.

"I grew up in Nippers and I think it made us closer as a family,” she said.

"It's a good way to grow up and meet like-minded people and spend time outdoors enjoying what we have got on the Coast.

"It's a great environment and gives (children) a sense of community, which you wouldn't get from other activities.

"They also learn how to keep themselves safe and help out others in the surf.”

The Nippers program is open to children aged seven to 13 and involves weekly rotations of activities including board riding, surf swims, beach sprints and surf safety.

The club also participates in both individual and team competitions throughout the season.

Family membership is priced at just $200.

The sign-up day will be held on Sunday, August 20, from 9am-1pm at 64-76 Marcoola Esplanade.
