McCarthy on track at the Tour Down Under

JAY McCarthy will revisit the scene of one of the biggest stage wins of his career when the Tour Down Under continues on Tuesday.

The Maryborough rider finished the 145km stage among the peleton about 10 seconds behind winner German Andre Greipel.

For McCarthy, the only Australian cyclist in BORA-hansgrohe's team, Monday's first stage was more about his safety and saving energy for upcoming days.

The 25-year-old has fond memories of the 148.6km course today's stage will cover: he won it in 2016.

"(Today's) stage into Stirling suits me, it will be a little more hilly all day and with an uphill kick into the finish,” McCarthy said.

"It also suits (three-time world champion and teammate) Peter Sagan so we will talk on the road tomorrow to see who is in better knick coming into the final.”
