COAST beauty Aquila Bergstrom is feeling confident heading into today's Miss Universe Australia Queensland final.

The former model will make her first appearance in the 2017 competition after receiving a wild-card entry, pitting her against 27 other Queenslanders vying for a chance to take the Miss Universe Australia Crown in June.

But for Ms Bergstrom the competition was as much about making lasting connections as coming out on top.

"It's just for fun, and to see what happens, and meet some more people in the industry.

"It's been a really enjoyable journey.

"Its nothing like pageant shows or movies ... it's just a bunch of friendly, normal down-to-earth Aussie chicks.

"It's kind of like school camp."

Ms Bergstrom has been brushing up on current affairs and hitting the gym more often than usual in preparation for today's event.

She is fitting the competition's demands in around her already-busy schedule as a full-time university student, blogger and social influencer.
