Barring a personal disaster or machine malfunction, Yamaha’s Jay Marmont will wrap up the Pro Opens Championship at the ninth and final round of the 2008 Rockstar Energy Drink Motocross Nationals at Coolum this Sunday.

Marmont, needing only two points on Sunday to win the championship, has been playing it safe during practice this week, ensuring injury will not jeopardise his chances of victory.

“We’ve pretty much covered anything that could happen: injury, tyres, fuel, engines – if something did happen it’d be telling me that I didn’t deserve to win the championship!

“We’ve thrown everything we have at it and I’ve just got to be smart now and put 30 minutes together on Sunday.”

But while the Pro Open class looks a forgone conclusion, the Pro Lites championship is wide open.

Only seven points separates Kawasaki duo Luke George and Adam Monea with Woodstock Honda Thor’s Kade Mosig 12 points off the pace.

Mosig has nothing to lose and according to Honda, the 18-year-old will make a all-out final bid for the championship’s top honours.

Locked in an intense, season-long battle, Mosig, George and Monea are set to go head-to-head for the ultimate clash, with Mosig confident that he can lift the title on Sunday at one of his favourite tracks.

“I love the track at Coolum,” he said

“I’ve been training very hard and I’m feeling confident.

“I’ve already got third place wrapped up, so really I’ve got nothing to lose and everything to gain at Coolum.

“The plan is to go out and win both races. I’ll give it all I’ve got and hopefully the championship will follow.”

Local race fans will have the chance to meet the Woodstock Honda stars Anderson, Daniel McCoy, Kade Mosig and Dean Ferris in Coolum on Saturday.

Between 5.30 and 6.30pm Craig Anderson and Dean Ferris will be at Salty Dog Cellars on the David Low Way and Daniel McCoy and Kade Mosig will be at Coolum Park Cellars. As well as getting an autograph and photo, fans will have the chance to win a Woodstock Honda jacket and a family pass to Sunday’s championship finale at Coolum Pines Motocross Park.
