Our girls kick off league season

The inaugural Sunshine Coast Girls’ rugby league season kicked off at Beerwah last Sunday.

Girls from Coolum, Caboolture, Beerwah, Bribie Island and Nambour under-15 and under-17 teams played two non-competitive games after watching footage of the 2008 Women’s State of Origin, learning about the rules and format for the season ahead, and participating in a skills’ activity rotation.

ARL senior development officer Kate Cross said the concept of a girls’ competition had been gaining momentum since the Women’s World Cup was hosted at Kawana last November.

“It’s an exciting opportunity for girls across the Coast,” she said.
