PSPA declared after officer in station handed explosive

UPDATE: 3.55PM: Police have revoked an emergent situation under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) at The Gap.

The emergent situation was revoked at 3:45 this afternoon, and the roads in the area have now reopened.

2.21PM: Police have declared an emergent situation under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) at The Gap.

The PSPA was declared at 2.20pm as after police assessed liquid handed into The Gap police station on Waterworks Road, and identified it as being an explosive substance.

Police including specialist officers are on-scene.

Police will destroy the material at a nearby park.

The PSPA has been declared within the area of Waterworks Road, Nigel Street, Lochinvar Lane, Bennetts Road and Fish Creek.
