Shops hit by thefts

Police are investigating two break-ins within days of each other at businesses just metres apart on Coolum’s esplanade.

Last Tuesday night, cash and cigarettes were stolen from the Esplanade News And Casket.

There was no sign of forced entry, with the offender turning off the alarm before opening the safe and removing a “substantial” amount of cash.

The robber also broke the security shutter on the newagency’s cigarettes display rack, scattering cigarette packets over the shop.

Then on Saturday night, just a few doors down, The Shop convenience store was broken into in very similar circumstances.

Anyone with information about either break-in can contact Coolum Police on 5440 2777 or call Crime Stoppers anonymously on 1800 333 000.
