DUST off your aviators and dig up your bomber jackets, the Coast's Mayoral Ball is going vintage at a unique venue.

The October 7 event, a collaboration between local charity SunnyKids and the Sunshine Coast Council, will be held in an airport hangar transformed for the occasion.

Sunshine Coast Mayor and SunnyKids patron, Mark Jamieson, said the McDermott Aviation hangar was the perfect venue for this year's black tie event.

"The theme for this year's ball is 'the sky is the limit' and that really fits in well with where the Sunshine Coast is heading into the future,” he said.

"It's an exciting time to live on the Sunshine Coast but the fundraising from this event highlights our unique community spirit and commitment to support those who need it most.”

Celebrity chef and champion of seasonal, local produce, Matt Golinski, will fill the menu with the best of the Coast, which will be paired with wonderful wine and great entertainment.

Last year's event raised about $75,000 for SunnyKids and several other local charities, and SunnyKids president Karen Neuendorf said the themes of elegance, sophistication and limited speeches and fundraising would be repeated.

"I really think we hit on a winner last year by maximising the amount of time guests had to socialise,” she said.

"This year we will focus on premium food and wine and great entertainment. Guests will enjoy dancing with the big band, as well as socialising with their guests in a really unique location.

"The primary goal of the ball is to raise community awareness and important funds for the tireless work which SunnyKids undertakes on behalf of our community to support disadvantaged families and we are committed to achieving that via this year's Mayoral Ball.”
