Splash of colour at inaugural school fundraiser

IT WAS a friendly rivalry between students and their teachers as they bathed themselves in powdered paint.

Coolum State High School played host to an inaugural colour run, where a politician was pitted against a principal to raise money for the P&C's plan to build new bike sheds.

P&C president Nicole Sklenars said the $60,000 project was about encouraging more kids to ride to school.

For the first-time event, they raised an impressive $1400 for the cause.

"This is the first year we've hosted a Colour Run, and the whole school community have really gotten behind it,” Ms Sklenars said.

"We are hoping it will become an annual event, and one of our major fundraisers for the year.”

More than 200 students and teaching staff were joined by students from Peregian Springs and Coolum State Primary Schools for the event last Friday, as well as Member for Ninderry, Dan Purdie who raced principal Troy Ascott.

Ms Sklenars said the children had an absolute ball watching their principal battle it out against the MP, which ended in a remarkable tie.

"The amount of laughter and colour was just fabulous,” she said.

"The kids have a really cool principal.”

Local firies joined the celebration, where they hosed down the competitors from head to toe at the finish line.

"I don't know who had the most fun,” Ms Sklenars said.

"The students, the teachers or the fire brigade.”
