Coolum put on a top performance at the Pomona tournament.

Coolum performed well against a record number of competitors at the annual Australian Shotokan Karate Association friendship tournament at Pomona last weekend.

More than 80 competitors from across south-east Queensland attended the tournament, with Coolum’s team of 18 claiming 20 medals.

Nicholas Marchant, Jakeb Lucht and Shotokan Karate Association instructor Michael Allen won gold.

Seven of the competitors – Caitlin Jones, Harrison Allen, PJ Doughty, Lewis Thomson, Nicole Jones, Jason Poldervaart and Michael Allen – had to back up the next day at the south-east Queensland pre-state qualifier.

All seven achieved a placing, which gave them automatic entry into the state titles to be held in June.
