A MOTHER was shocked to see two deadly brown snakes battling ferociously outside her home.

Monique Krause spotted the two snakes locked in a deadly embrace outside her kitchen window this morning at Westmar on the Darling Downs.

The mother said the two snakes were locked together as they were fighting.

Dave Wiedman from Toowoomba Snake Catchers 24/7 said the two snakes were males and were likely fighting over the attention of a female.

He said battles were also territorial, with the winner staying and the loser leaving.

Mr Wiedman said there was potential for them to kill each other, with snakes even eating each other at times.

They are immune to their own venom though.
