WARNING: Fuel prices could spike any moment on the Coast

PETROL PRICE DOWN: Filling up has never been painless, but it is a little less painful at the moment.

UPDATE: Petrol prices could spike any day now, with the state's peak motoring body urging Coast residents to fuel up before it is too late.

RACQ spokesperson Renee Young told the Daily that more than 50% of Brisbane service stations are now charging 132.9 cents per litre (cpl) and the Coast is likely to follow.

"The average on the Sunshine Coast remains low at 112cpl, with plenty of fuel still available for 110cpl or less," she said.

"We continue to urge motorists to buy now as the Sunshine Coast cycle will likely soon follow Brisbane, where many service stations are now at 132.cpl and Gympie average for ULP 123.6cpl."

On Monday motorists had the chance to fuel up their tanks yesterday with E10 for the bargain price of 100.9cpl.

The last time average fuel prices on the Sunshine Coast were under a dollar was in March 2016, when prices dipped to a cheap 99.1cpl.

MONDAY: SUNSHINE Coast motorists can finally rejoice - petrol prices have stopped breaking the bank.

For the first time in months, a petrol station on the Sunshine Coast has edged close to a dollar a litre, with Puma Kunda Park offering discount E10 at 100.9c.

RACQ's Renee Smith said she was pleased to hear that service stations were finally lowering their prices for Coast motorists.

"In recent months some parts of the Sunshine Coast had not been discounting in line with the cheap phase of the cycle and motorists had not had access to the cheap prices in the likes of Brisbane," she said.

"In good news for Sunshine Coast motorists prices have come down, in line with the price cycle across the south east."

Brisbane unleaded petrol prices began to rise over the weekend to a high of 132.9c/l, whereas the average price on the Sunshine Coast is currently sitting 112.9c/l - but that could change at any moment.

"Sunshine Coast motorists should be warned prices could also rise to a similar high at any time and they should fill up now," Ms Smith said.

"Motorists shouldn't assume all service stations are charging the same and ensure they are filling up at cheaper servos selling for 110c/l or less.

"It is important to support the cheaper servos, as if we give our business to the dearer ones, what is the incentive for them to drop their prices?"

RACQ advised that Maroochydoore, Marcoola, Kunda Park, Bli Bli, Caloundra and Pelican Waters were the cheapest spots to fill up on the Coast.

Puma Energy declined to comment on fuel pricing.
